This season had its fair share of highs and lows; the lows included one pro dancer who almost sustained a concussion, one contestant ending her run early due to a hospitalization, and Carole Baskin danced three times in lion costumesBut none of these events impacted the magnificent level of dancing the couples performed throughout the season.

Skai Jackson pulled out a jaw-dropping split on week one, Johnny Weir channeled Mulan on Disney Night, Nev Schulman’s balletic take on Swan Lake for Villains Night, and the unforgettable Argentine Tango that was part of the reason Kaitlyn Bristowe took first in the competition were only a few of the highlights from this remarkable season.

After the shocking double elimination in the semi-finals in which Johnny Weir and Skai Jackson went home, this left Nelly, Machado, Schulman, and Bristowe the final dancers competing for the title. Each allowed their personalities to shine through in their freestyles. Nelly, a fan-favorite, danced to the Notorious B.I.G. in an inspired take on Bonnie and Clyde. Machado channeled her inner Latina for a lively and energetic performance to a combination of JLo and The Gypsy Kings. Schulman charmed everyone as he danced under falling water in a yellow raincoat, to Singing In The Rain; he would later emerge as the runner-up.

Bristowe ended her competition with a Satin-approved number to “Sparkling Diamonds.” She entered from a trapeze wire in true Moulin Rouge fashion. While Nev Schulman actually had the highest consistent average score throughout the season, the fans loved Bristowe more, giving her the extra edge to win the season.

Congratulations to all the dancers this season, and we can’t wait to see what next season brings us.
