Deadline has reported that the two actresses have been tapped to lead Netflix’s Strangers, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Mendes is best known for her role as Veronica Lodge in the hit CW series Riverdale, which is heading into its fifth season. Most recently, she was in Palm Springs. She is no stranger to Netflix films either; she starred in Dangerous Lies and was part of The Perfect Date.

Hawke joined the cast of Netflix’s Stranger Things last season and will continue her role in this upcoming season. She was most recently seen in Mainstream Showtime’s The Good Lord Bird.

This film also follows Robinson’s feature directorial debut, Someone Great. Robinson and Celeste Ballard co-wrote the project, which is described as a “subverted Hitchock-ian dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls. It follows Drew (Alpha, it girl) and Eleanor (beta, alt girl) who, after a clandestine meet-cute, team up to go after each other’s bullies.”

We can’t wait to see these two incredible women take on this new project.
