John David Washington is joining the cast of the star-studded new David O. Russell film.

Deadline reported the news over the weekend, stating that the film’s title and synopsis are currently being kept under wraps. They did, however, reveal that the movie will start production in Los Angeles beginning in January.

Washington is reportedly taking the place of Michael B. Jordan, who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

Russell’s latest project comes as his first since his 2015 Oscar-nominated movie Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence. The film will be produced by New Regency and Matthew Budman. Deadline says the movie will be “distributed via New Regency’s deal with 20th Century Studios.”

Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki (Birdman, The Revenant) has been tapped for the top-secret project as well.

Washington will appear aside Margot Robbie (I, Tonya) and Christian Bale (The Dark Knight).

Washington became a household name after his highly publicized role in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, and most recently appeared in Christopher Nolen’s time travel centered film, Tenet.

Robbie recently portrayed Shannon Tate in Quinton Tarrention’s multi-winning movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The actress also took aim at a Harley Quinn stand-alone film that came out pre-pandemic.

Bale has teamed up with Russell on two projects so far, getting critical praise for both of his performances in American Hustle and The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg.

In the wake of the film news, fans have taken to Twitter to share their reactions to the casting.

A release date for the film has not yet been disclosed. In the meantime, we can’t wait to hear more about the project and see the cast work together for this exciting new project.
