Jurnee Smollett Discusses Chris Hemsworth and ‘Lovecraft Country’ on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’
On October 6, Jurnee Smollett, who stars in HBO’s Lovecraft Country, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss a wide range of topics such as her family, new films, and her quarantine experience.
You probably know Smollett for her work on Friday Night Lights, True Blood, or most recently, Birds of Prey where she played Black Canary opposite Margot Robbie.
i am once again here to ask @ATT @hbomax to make a #BlackCanaryHBOSeries starring Jurnee Smollett because she is absolutely perfect as Black Canary and definitely deserves to have her own series. pic.twitter.com/bEOhXT9UTB

DeGeneres opened the interview by asking Smollett about her time in quarantine, which led to the two discussing her son, who is now four years old. Smollett reflected on the first time she interviewed with DeGeneres because she was pregnant with her son at the time.
It was also the same day she met Chris Hemsworth backstage, who her mother flirted shamelessly with. “But my mom was telling him he was a tall drink of water,” Smollett explained to DeGeneres as they shared laughs over the memory.
Smollett mentioned her new movie Spiderhead, which also stars Hemsworth and Miles Teller. The movie will be filmed in Australia and require strict coronavirus precautions. They will be escorted to a hotel for a fourteen-day quarantine and then be free to go to set and start working, which she explained to DeGeneres.

The actress describes Lovecraft Country as “a very disruptive show, in which at its heart, it’s a family drama, you know.” The show is an all-new horror drama with Smollett as the lead actress. Her character works with her friend Atticus Freeman to navigate the Jim Crow south. They face both the threat of racism and terrifying, magical creatures in the land where H.P. Lovecraft called home.
