On Monday night, Universal Pictures released the first trailer for the female-led spy thriller The 355 starring Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong’o, and it looks incredible.

According to a synopsis provided by Rotten Tomatoes, the film follows five women as they “band together to stop a global organization from acquiring a weapon that could thrust the teetering world into total chaos.”

Among the five leading ladies, Chastain and Nyong’o are joined by Penélope Cruz (Vanilla Sky), Diane Kruger (National Treasure), and Bingbing Fan (Iron Man 3). Sebastian Stan and Edgar Ramírez are also co-starring.

The movie is directed by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Dark Phoenix) and co-written alongside Theresa Rebeck (Smash). Chastain and Kinberg are both producing the thriller.

Before the release, the film’s official Twitter account began to tease fans with new character posters depicting Chastain as Mace, Nyong’o as Khadijah, Cruz as Graciela, Kruger as Marie, and Fan as Lin Mi Sheng.

The character posters came just hours before the trailer launched during Monday night’s episode of Late Night Seth Myers.

Each of the five women represents the United States, United Kingdom, Colombia, Germany, and China.

According to Variety, the film idea was originally proposed by Chastain when she worked with Kinberg on X-Men: Dark Phoenix last year.

Fans have begun sharing their reactions to the first trailer on Twitter.

The 355 is scheduled to be released worldwide on January 15, 2021. To see film updates, follow @355movie on Twitter and Instagram.
