Watch the First Trailer for Amazon Prime’s ‘The Glorias’ Starring Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore is starring as a feminist icon, Gloria Steinem in a new biopic for Amazon Prime titled The Glorias

The film, based off of Steinem’s autobiography My Life on the Road, follows the activist through various stages in her life leading up to her trailblazing career.

Alicia Vikander, who won an Oscar for her role in 2015’s The Danish Girl, will portray a young adult Gloria Steinem. The film will also include Janelle Monáe as Dorothy Pitman Hughes, Bette Midler as Bella Abzug, as well as Ryan Kiera Armstrong and Lulu Wilson as Steinem in pre-teen and teenage form.

Steinem is best known for being a spokeswoman for the feminist movement in the ’60s and ’70s as well as a bestselling author. In 2016, she was honored with the Presidental Medal of Freedom by former President Barack Obama.

The movie will be directed and co-written by Julie Taymor, best known for her work on Frida starring Selma BlairIn an interview with Entertainment Weekly after the film’s Sundance launch, Taymor revealed why she was inspired to do a project about Steinem.

“I’ve been directing a long time, and I’ve gone through a lot of stuff. And for a long time, I kept my blinders on and said there is no such thing as misogyny. Until I got it really bad on a show,” Taymor said. “Gloria came to my side and she said ‘It’s OK. I get it. Been there. Done that.'”

In anticipation of Taymor’s film, fans are currently sharing their excitement about the first look at the Amazon Prime original movie.
