Zendaya Wears All Black Designers and Covers InStyle; Talks Activism, BLM and Anxiety
On Thursday morning, InStyle unveiled Zendaya as their September cover star. The Euphoria actress was photographed by Ahmad Barber and Donté Maurice and styled by Law Roach.
In the spread, Zendaya talked to Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors about her upcoming film, anxiety, and her decision to work exclusively with an all-Black team for the issue.
“I’ve always had a Black stylist and Black hair and makeup artists. But we were able to work with two talented young Black photographers on this shoot too,” Zendaya said. “There are also so many Black designers people don’t know about, so having an opportunity where they can be in InStyle and get the love they deserve is really special. I hope people are like, “Oh, I like that dress!” And then go support them.”
Zendaya also spoke about her upcoming role in the Timothée Chalamet led film Dune, which is currently eyeing a December release. In her interview with Cullors, she spoke of her excitement about the movie.
“Dune was incredible. I wasn’t in it very much, so when I was watching the trailer, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh!'” Zendaya said. “I called Timothée and said, ‘Dude! You should be proud.’ It is a big deal to even be a small part of something with such a massive cast.”

Taking a more serious turn in the interview, Zendaya touched on her struggle with anxiety. The Euphoria star, who has been open about her battle with anxiety in the past, offered some insight on just how she copes with it in her everyday life. “I definitely don’t have it under control yet. I don’t have the key, so if anybody does, let me know!” Zendaya said. “I do find that talking about it is helpful, and that can often mean calling my mom in the middle of the night.”
