Dany Garcia has become the first woman to be an owner of a sports league after buying the XFL with ex-husband Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Garcia and Johnson, along with RedBird Capital, acquired the league for $15 million before it was to be auctioned off. The previous owner Vince McMahon filed for bankruptcy in April after the second unsuccessful attempt to start a season due to COVID-19. Garcia is stepping in and is the true definition of women making boss moves in sports. Being no stranger to the sports world, Garcia is a bodybuilder and is the CEO of TGC Management, which handles portfolios in business and entertainment.

She also has several movies under her belt that she worked as executive producer on such as Baywatch (2017), Hobbs & Shaw (2019), and Genghis Khan (due out in 2021). This partnership with The Rock comes as no surprise as Garcia managed Johnson after being married for a decade. The pair just recently partnered on Athleticon, a convention meant to bring together panels and interactive experiences as well as athletic competitions. The inaugural convention was meant to be held this October but was postponed due to COVID-19 as well. The first Athleticon is now scheduled for October 2021 in Atlanta.

The goal of XFL has always been to bring football fans a different experience and knock NFL out of the number one spot when it comes to enjoying the sport. Garcia and Johnson plan to use their combined entertainment and sports expertise to revitalize the league and give their fans something new to love.
