Actress, Model, and Trans Activist Leyna Bloom Signs with Creative Arts Agency
Leyna Bloom, the first transgender woman of color to star in a Cannes film, recently signed on to the Creative Arts Agency, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated agencies.
Bloom shared her excitement about joining CAA with a post on Instagram, stating that she was “feeling extremely lucky for this new chapter.” She also thanked everyone who helped make her achievement possible.
For the past several years, Bloom has been breaking records in the modeling industry. As one of the few openly transgender women of color working in modeling, Bloom made news when she walked the runway during the 2017 New York Fashion Week. Later that year, she became the first openly transgender woman of color to appear in Vogue India.
Bloom continued making big splashes in the fashion world in 2018 when she was featured in H and M’s international campaign, with her face displayed in thousands of stores worldwide. Her work as a model was recognized later that year when Glamour magazine named her one of “6 Women Who Are Shaping the Future of Fashion.” She was also the only transgender woman of color to walk at Paris Fashion Week when she took part in the all-Black cast for the Tommy Hilfiger x Zendaya fashion show.
Last year, Bloom made her acting debut in the movie Port Authority, which made history as the first film in Canne’s Film Festival to feature an openly transgender woman of color.
Bloom is also a vocal proponent for greater diversity in fashion and entertainment. She has regularly posted on social media, calling for equal rights and justice for transgender people of color, as well as representation on the catwalk. In 2018, she even campaigned to become one of the first trans women of color on the Victoria’s Secret Runway.
