Pixar Announces New Film, ‘Luca’
Disney and Pixar have announced that a new animated feature film will be released in the summer of 2021, titled Luca.
According to Variety, the film will center around a young boy named Luca and his unforgettable summer experience in a seaside town on the Italian Rivera. Luca will also be specifically focusing on the bond between Luca and his newfound best friend. Their friendship will be put into question when Luca’s sea monster identity is revealed.

Italian storyboard artist Enrico Casarosa will be directing the film. As quoted by Polygon, Casarosa said in a news release: “This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca. So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.” Previously he directed La Luna, a critically acclaimed short Disney Pixar film that was released back in 2014.
