Netflix‘s highest budget film to date, The Gray Man, is based on a thriller book series full of action.

The Russo brothers will be starting production on the new movie starring two of Hollywood’s leading men. Ryan Gosling is set to portray the main character of the series, Court Gentry, an ex-CIA agent who becomes an assassin after being exiled from the agency. Chris Evans, who has previously worked with the Russo brothers in four MCU (Marvel Comic Universe) films, will play Llyod Hansen, a CIA agent who has been ordered to hunt down Gentry. In a statement to Deadline, Joe Russo says, “The intention is for it to be competitive with any theatrical, and the ability to do with Gosling and Evans is a dream for us. The idea is to create a franchise and build out a whole universe, with Ryan at the center of it. We have all committed to the first movie, and that’s got to be great to get us to the second movie. These are master assassins, and Gosling’s characters gets burned by the CIA and Evans’ character has to hunt him down.”

Author of The Gray Man series, Mark Greaney, is no stranger to action-thriller storylines. Greaney published the first of the nine novels of the series in 2009 and has gone on to become an international bestseller. Greaney is also credited for the Tom Clancy and the Jack Ryan novels. What makes Greaney such a creditable and distinctive storyteller? The author has traveled across the globe to familiarize himself with different locations and has partnered both with military and Intelligence Agencies to train on different tactics, including weaponry.
