Ariana Grande Joins Mariah Carey as the Only Female Artists With Three Number One Debuts

Both Ariana and Mariah are currently the only female artists in history to accumulate three number one debuts on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

Carey not only single-handedly held this title for over 23 years but was also the first female artist in history to debut at number one. Carey achieved this record when her song “Fantasy” topped the charts with over 229,000 sales in 1995.

Along with “Fantasy,” “One Sweet Day,” and “Honey,” also debuted at number one. This was a huge milestone in Carey’s career, especially since both “Fantasy” and “One Sweet Day” were from the same album.

Following in Carey’s footsteps, Grande also had two songs from the same album debut at number one. Both “thank u, next” and “7 rings” from the album thank u, next achieved this. The album went on to sell over one million copies worldwide, making it the eighth best-selling album of 2019.

Grande received her third number-one debut on May 18, 2020, with the song “Stuck with U,'” a collaboration with Justin Bieber.

After news broke that Carey and Grande were now tied, both fandoms begged for the two to collaborate. The Lambs (Carey’s fans) and Arianators (Grande’s fans) raved about how iconic this collaboration would be, especially since they both have a wide vocal range.

With the persistence of both fandoms, we might see a collaboration between the two artists sooner rather than later. For now, make sure to check out both artist’s catalog available on all streaming platforms.
