Watch the New Trailer for Michelle Obama’s Netflix Documentary ‘Becoming’

The news of this documentary had been kept a secret until Netflix dropped the trailer.

Netflix has released a trailer for a new Michelle Obama documentary titled Becoming. It started with the Obama’s Higher Ground production company and will premiere on Netflix on May 6. The documentary shares the same name as Obama’s 2018 memoir and will pick up where it left off. The film follows the former first lady as she embarks on her book tour.

Her book Becoming has sold over 11 million copies and has been translated into 20 different languages. On her 2019 book tour, Michelle went to 34 cities around the country. In those cities, she met with communities and youth groups answering questions about her time in the White House and giving life advice to the next generation. In a statement, Obama said the experience of the tour “drove home the idea that what we share in common is deep and real and can’t be messed with.”

Nadia Hallgren, a veteran documentary cinematographer, followed Obama on her book tour from city to city. The film is being produced by Katy Chevigny, Marilyn Ness, and Lauren Cioffi. The film is the latest release for Obama’s Higher Ground Productions which has an exclusive multi-film deal with Netflix. The production company has proven to be successful since their first documentary, American Factory, won the Academy Award for best documentary earlier this year.
