Instagram Announces Plans to Ban Plastic Surgery like Filters

Instagram will be removing all filters that appear to promote cosmetic surgery.

Last week, Spark AR Creators, the company in charge of many of Instagram’s face filters, announced on Facebook that it would be “Removing all effects associated with plastic surgery from the Instagram Effect Gallery”. Both companies are focused on the well-being of their consumers in hopes to give them a positive experience.

Filters like Plastica, show the user how they would look if they were to undergo popular procedures. FixMe, another face altering filter, shows how the surgeon would mark your face before operating.

The company commented that they would reveal specific guidelines of the removal when the new policy is ready to be shared. Media is the powerhouse of today; when people promote surgery in order to appear a certain way, it can take a toll on one’s mental health. Hopefully, by removing the unrealistic filters, people can have a healthier view of their self-image.
