Zendaya: The Face of ‘Euphoria’, a New Diverse Show

HBO

Young actress, Zendaya, takes on quite the new role.

In the past, we all may have recognized Zendaya for her starring role in Disney Channel’s Shake it Up. However, today, the 22-year-old actress has filled some quite big story shoes. In her new role of Rue, a young teen, LGBTQ member, and drug addict, Zendaya’s character faces much trouble internally and externally.

The show’s cast and team have been very upfront about their goals for the story. That being to highlight the bitter and raw parts of addiction, youth, and sexuality.

Zendaya’s character Rue, and her screen partner Hunter Schafer’s character, Jules, enter into a tumultuous relationship, always keeping each other on their toes. As a trans-woman on and off the screen, Hunter Schafer’s persona of Jules tries to navigate her femininity, whilst simultaneously attempting to love and support her drug-addicted best friend and potential love interest. The pair not only have great chemistry on screen but are also close friends outside of the show.

There have been plenty of negative remarks towards Euphoria since its air. The store depicts graphics and challenging scenes for almost all viewers. However, every single actor, Zendaya included, have rallied behind their characters, scenes, and the show’s overall message. In turn, the rawness of Euphoria has since seemed to sting a little less on the tongues of viewers…or at least it has left a positive, eye-opening perspective on the cast.

I have a lot to say, and I don’t know how to get it out, or even process these last 8 weeks but I’ll try. I’m so grateful for this show. For the beautiful family I’ve gained from it, for the self discovery and purpose I’ve found in it, and the people that we’ve been able to connect with and speak to through it. We spent months, hard months, pouring ourselves into something we love, and it was an honor to have done so beside so many insanely talented, extraordinary people. From my brilliant cast mates, H&MU, Costume Design, Cinematographers, ADs, Producers, the whole crew, each of you have inspired me and pushed me to be better everyday. Sam, thank you for trusting me with the most honest parts of yourself and bringing Rue into my life, for both of you, I’m forever grateful. Alright I could do this forever. But you get the idea, I’m thankful for a lot. And also for all of you out there for receiving our work with an open heart. Can’t wait to do it all again! With all this being said, the finale episode 8 tonight💙
