Billie Eilish Takes the Number 1 Spot on Billboard Hot 100
Billie Eilish’s song “Bad Guy” is officially the number 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, dethroning Lil Nas X’s 19-week reigning track “Old Town Road.”
Billie Eilish has become the first artist born in the 2000s to have a number 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. “Bad Guy” sat patiently in the number 2 spot for 9 weeks before taking its turn at number 1. It is also the first song to reach the no. 1 spot on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Alternative Songs charts since Lorde’s “Royals” in 2016.

The song has peaked on charts all over the world, including Australia, Canada, Estonia, Russia, and Greece, among others. It has won several awards and certifications, including a quadruple platinum award form the Australian Recording Industry Association and Music Canada.
Lil Nas X had a supportive response to being knocked from the top, tweeting his congratulations to Eilish.

“Bad Guy” was released as the fifth single from Eilish’s debut studio album When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? The song has been compared to the work of The White Stripes, Lorde, and Fiona Apple. Billie Eilish has been noticed as a sort of younger, rowdy sibling of Lorde, as well as a symbol of where pop music is heading for younger generations and into the future.
