Yara Shahidi Visits ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’

We learned some interesting things about Yara Shahidi on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon the other night.

Yara and Jimmy played “Would You Rather” on a segment called “Might Delete Later with Yara Shahidi,” where both of them had to answer questions and whoever answered differently than the audience had to post a terrible selfie to Instagram—while the person the audience agreed with had to post a nice selfie with a “cool filter” to Instagram. None of the selfies are available on Yara’s or Jimmy’s Instagram pages right now (though they televised the selfie-making in action), so we have to assume that the title of the segment was foreshadowing the inevitable. Even so, the clip was quite amusing.

Question #1: Would you rather drink a gallon of ketchup in one sitting or eat nothing but plain hot dogs for a whole week?

Yara almost went with ketchup, then pondered if this was a hypothetical workweek or not before going on to answer that she would rather eat the hot dogs. She noted that eating only hot dogs would be easier during a work week than a non-work week. Jimmy went with the ketchup. 72% of the audience agreed with Yara and Jimmy ended up posting an unflattering selfie.

Question #2: Would you rather have hiccups for the rest of your life or always feel like you are about to sneeze?

Yara and Jimmy both answered “hiccups.” Yara noted that “it would be a cool, quirky thing,” and both agreed that always feeling an oncoming sneeze would be unbearable.

Question #3 raised the stakes a bit.

You can see the full segment below.

In another clip, Yara talks about meeting Lizzo at the Met Gala. It’s really sweet. They are both Minnesotans and she mentions how they are “spiritually connected” and were talking about being future running mates for President and Vice President.

Yara goes on to talk about politics (she is very motivated to get people mobilized to get out and vote), school, season 2 of Grown-ish, and her new movie The Sun Is Also A Star.
