Check Out Common and Sara Bareilles’ Duet on ‘The Train’


Common and Sara Bareilles team up to release a pop track for the new film All About Nina.

When it comes to musicians-turned-actors, Common and Sara Bareilles definitely share something in (no pun intended) common.

Common first began his career as a rapper, later expanding his pursuits to star in films like Just Wright and New Year’s Eve.

Sara Bareilles has also branched into the acting world, first starring in the Broadway production of Waitress, a musical which she composed. Bareilles also recently portrayed Mary Magdalene in the NBC production of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert!

The two internationally-known songwriters collaborated on a tune for the upcoming indie comedy drama All About Nina. The film centers around a rising comedian who is forced to face her troubled past when she has a breakdown during one of her comedy routines. Common co-stars alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the film, which premiered in select theaters on September 28th.

“The Train” dissects the complex emotions with which individuals who have mental illnesses struggle. However, there is an optimistic message of hope with the ability to move forward in life, as described by the train metaphor in the song’s title.
