Rihanna is mostly known for being a successful singer within the music industry with her catchy Pop/R&B songs. Not only has she proven to be successful musically, but she has also recently made strides within the beauty and fashion industry. These new ventures were originally started with her collaboration with Puma in 2016 and Manolo Blahnik in 2017. Rihanna also showcased her signature beauty collection, ‘Fenty Beauty’ in 2017. This beauty line caters to women of various skin types and shades by helping enhance their natural facial features. Recently, Rihanna launched her fashion collection with LVMH, a luxury brand that is home to legendary brands such as Givenchy, Dior, Celine, and Louis Vuitton.

The ‘Fenty Maison’ collection will include ‘ready to wear’ clothing, shoes, and fashion accessories that will be made for diverse women of all shapes and sizes. After the launch of her fashion line, promotional photos for her brand caught the attention of many people. The photos that promote her products feature unedited photos of models that show their scars and skin flaws. Aweng Chuol is one of the models that have been featured in this campaign and she stated to Dazed Digital, “Sometimes I just want to shout at everyone: ‘Look at me, I’m not just a scar, I’m a human. But I get it, it’s a curiosity. I know I’m different, I know my facial features are different, but to me that’s beauty.”

This promotional campaign has sparked a fire in many women to embrace their flaws that society has deemed as unperfect. Various women have commented that they love that the photos have not been retouched and that the pictures combat societal norms. The launch of the ‘Fenty Maison’ collection has inspired women to feel comfortable within their own skin, as well as supporting self-love and acceptance. Since Rihanna has also showcased a diverse group of models from different backgrounds in one of her previous fashion shows for the Savage X Fenty collection, we can only imagine how the ‘Fenty Maison’ collection will further challenge societal norms and promote inclusivity.
