Three Must-See Moments from The Tony Awards

If you’re not familiar with the annual award ceremony held at Radio City Music Hall, the Tony Awards (also known as the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre) have been happening since 1947.

This is the award ceremony for live theatre, not just because it commemorates excellence over the past year, but because the ceremony itself is full of more live performances. Here are some notable moments from the ceremony, shown live on CBS, Sunday evening:

Second-time host, James Corden, sings an opening song that is witty and hilarious. Also, the couch he’s sitting on turns out to be like Mary Poppins’ carpet bag.

Award nominee Caitlin Kinnunen, who plays Emma in The Prom, kissed Isabelle McCalla, who plays Emma’s girlfriend. This isn’t the first time that two women have kissed on live TV, but it’s still a proud moment.

Ali Stroker became the first person in a wheelchair to win a Tony Award for her part in Oklahoma! She dedicated her award to kids with disabilities.
