Make sure to log in to your Hulu account and tune in for the season 3 premiere of The Handmaid’s Tale on Wednesday, June 5th.

The highly successful show finally returns after much anticipation to pick up where season 2 left off. We last saw Offred/June get her baby out of Gilead while she decides to stay. Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name provides the basis of adaptation for this compelling show. Low fertility and birth rates along with environmental issues plague the U.S., and the campaign to return to traditional values, in large part spread by Serena, the eventual Commander’s wife, seems to provide a simple enough solution to the mass’ problems too complex to actually solve so easily, so it catches on. A much more restrictive government develops and changes the landscape of the U.S. to fit their fundamentals and rules.

The show depicts a believable progression of the U.S. shifting into the totalitarian society of Gilead through June’s flashbacks. They show the government slowly taking rights from women, not taking them all at once to lessen public alarm, placate worries, and provide some illusion of normalcy and mask their truly intended outcome. Women end up with no rights and the fertile ones like June, given the title of Handmaids, have to enter servitude under high ranking members of the government to get impregnated by them. The new season trailer hints at having June, with the aid of Serena, spark a revolution which you don’t want to miss. Watch the trailer below.
