‘Booksmart’ Is This Summer’s Must-See Movie
Booksmart is a brilliantly written movie that portrays females in a positive light.
Nowadays it seems like teen comedies are boring and formulaic. That’s why Booksmart is changing the game with its interestingly new plot line.
Booksmart is actress Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut. The movie follows life long friends Molly (Beanie Feldstein ) and Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) as they try to make the last night of their senior year memorable. The movie is filled with quirky and witty humor, but what shines the most in “Booksmart” is the portrayal of a strong female friendship.
More often than not, the media makes movies that pit women against each other. However, in Booksmart, the main characters of the movie see each other as smart, hardworking women who push each other to do better. Although the high school stereotypes are somewhat exaggerated, the movie seems somewhat realistic and not overly romanticized like the others in its genre. Booksmart is a refreshing and fun take of the teen-coming-of -age genre.
