Lin Manuel Miranda Inspired Oprah to Do an Amazing Thing

Instagram

Oprah is helping Puerto Rico continue to recover after Hurricane Maria.

The famous and beloved TV personality recently announced that she would be donating $2 million to the Hispanic Federation and Flamboyant Arts Fund. Helping the relief effort, her two-part donation is set to assist the rebuilding efforts on the struggling territory. Half of the money will be used for the Hispanic Federation’s UNIDOS Disaster Relief & Recovery Program to Support Puerto Rico, and the rest will be used to help continue the creative arts on the island with the Flamboyant Arts Fund. Winfrey attributed her decision to Broadway superstar Lin Manuel Miranda. Her inspiration was gained from Miranda’s commitment to his home of Puerto Rico and his love for the community. Additionally, her donation was also made in hopes to raise awareness for the harsh conditions and tragedy still afflicting the citizens of Puerto Rico.

Miranda’s infamous musical, Hamilton, has raised over $15 for the island in the wake of the damaging hurricane. The destructive disaster killed around 3,000 people and devastated the economy. Miranda, along with fellow Latin activist Marc Antony, tweeted about their enthusiasm for the repair and rebuilding work of the Hispanic Federation.

Marc shared this picture of himself and Lin Manuel referencing the Hispanic Federation’s recognition, due, in part, to Winfrey.

Miranda also shared some less formal pictures of the pair spreading their excitement for the success of the Hispanic Federation in the wake of Oprah’s generous help.

We love these stars and their determination to help Puerto Rico in their recovery.
