These K-Pop Stars Just Broke a Ton of World Records

YG Entertainment

K-pop group ‘Blackpink’ are shattering all kinds of records!

The Korean girl group’s newest single “Kill This Love” has become the fastest music video to reach 100 million views on Youtube. Hitting this milestone in under three days, this music video has surpassed all expectations and predictions. Released at the beginning of April, the music video also became the most viewed music video debut in the history of Youtube. It amassed 56.7 million views in the first 24 hours of its release, blowing away all precedents for K-pop music’s ability to be successful on the global market.

“Kill This Love” has even surpassed the Queen of Pop herself, Ariana Grande’s previous records. Grande’s “thank u, next” video previously held the record for most viewed video debut at 55.4 million views upon its premiere, but has now been eclipsed by Blackpink’s new record. Blackpink also passed Grande’s concurrent viewing record (829,000 concurrent views) by collecting over 979,000 views concurrently at its prime time.

To date, the hit has accumulated over 196 million views and has charged to the number one spot in the iTunes U.S. Charts, as only the second K-pop group and the first all-girl group in over a decade to achieve this feat. The stars posted their success on their Instagram, with a picture displaying their new record.
