The First Half of the 30th Annual GLAAD Awards Blew Everyone Away

The GLAAD Media Awards is held in order to recognize and honor media outlets for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community and the issues that affect them.

The first half of the 3oth Annual GLAAD Awards, hosted by Ross Matthews, took place on Thursday, March 28th in Los Angeles. Some of our favorite media outlets were nominated for GLAAD Awards and 15 of the 27 category winners were announced. Amongst the winners were: Love, Simon (Outstanding Film: Wide Release), Steven Universe (Best Kids and Family Programming), Vida (Best Comedy Series), and Queer Eye (Best Reality Series).

There were special awards giving to truly deserving individuals. The Carters (Beyoncé and Jay-Z) were awarded the Vanguard Award for their LGBTQ advocacy. Prior to their award acceptance, Beyoncé was honored by Rupaul’s Drag Race Diva, Shangela, with an amazing performance of her greatest hits.

The second half of the 30th Annual GLAAD Awards will be held in New York on May 4th. This is when the winners of the other 12 categories will be announced. It has already been announced that Madonna will be honored with an Advocate for Change award and Andy Cohen will receive the Vito Russo award at the second show.
