‘The L Word’ is Getting a Sequel

Instagram

In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Showtime executives announced that The L Word will be getting a sequel.

The L Word was a revolutionary series for the LGBTQIA community. It brought lesbianism and bisexuality to the forefront of storytelling, which was not a common occurrence on TV in 2004. In its five years and six seasons on the air, it opened doors for many people to feel comfortable expressing themselves any way they chose. It has a standing 7.6 on IMDb and was hailed as “instantly popular” by the New York Times upon release. Its reception was overwhelmingly positive and the excitement for the sequel proves that it made a lasting impact on fans.

The show sparked a different kind of spin-off in 2010. The series The Real L Word followed the lives of six actual lesbians living in LA, as opposed to fictionalized characters. This series furthered the original goal of normalizing the LGBTQIA culture and relationships and was a great way to end the five year run of an amazing show.

The new series will be headed by Marja-Lewis Ryan of The Four-Faced Liar and 6 Balloons. It will also feature Jennifer Beals, Leisha Hailey, and Katherine Moenning returning as their original characters alongside a new cast. We can’t wait to see what the newest iteration of this amazing show has in store.
