Lovie Simone: Hollywood’s Next Up
This Bronx- born actress is on her way to super stardom.
Everywhere you turn, you’re sure to see her face. 20 year old Lovie Simone Oppong is truly a talent on the rise. She’s been acting since she was 11 years old and it was no surprise when her career took off within the past few years.
You may know her from her current role on OWN’s hit series Greenleaf. Lovie plays Zora Greenleaf, one of the most complex characters on the show. Her character battles growing up in a high profile, religious family all while trying to be a normal teenager despite the pressure she’s faced with. On top of this she finds herself in a dangerous spot with her newfound love. Despite being so young Lovie plays the part effortlessly, really showcasing her talent.
Her recent work has taken on quite a buzz at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Lovie Simone stars in Selah and the Spades as the lead character Selah Summer. The film written and directed by Tayarisha Poe, takes places at a boarding school and follows the journey of 17 year old Selah, leader of the “Spades”, as she confronts her struggle with moving on and being replaced but not necessarily in a way we’d expect.
Lovie also features in Share, another Sundance film written and directed by Pippa Bianco which was recently purchased by HBO Films.
