After accumulating six Oscar nominations, the groundbreaking crime drama will be returning to theaters nationwide.

A lot of amazing movies came out in 2018. It was an amazing year for film, and one of the best movies of the year was, by far, BlacKkKlansman. This film was a box office hit that left audiences in awe. Its integration of true crime drama alongside real footage from the 1970’s Civil Rights Movement made a huge impact.

The film is based on true events and tells the story of Colorado Springs police officer, Ron Stallworth, who infiltrated the local Ku Klux Klan. As a black man in 1970s America and as the first Black Detective in Colorado Springs, this was a groundbreaking operation. The film was dark and suspenseful but intercut its tension with real humor and social commentary. Overall, the film earned a 7.6 on IMDb and an 83/100 on Metacritic. Both of these are outstanding ratings and well deserved.

The 2019 Oscar announcements came with 6 nominations for the film. First and foremost, it was nominated for Best Picture, a great achievement whether or not it wins the award. The film as a whole was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Original Score.  Adam Driver was nominated for best actor in a supporting role. Alongside this, director, Spike Lee, received his first nomination for Best Director. If he wins, he will be the first African American director to do so.

Following this amazing list of nominations, the film will be re-released in theatres the weekend of January 25th. It will be showing in 168 theatres in over 30 states. If you missed it the first time, now is your chance.

If you are looking forward to the Oscars as much as we are, make sure to mark your calendars for February 24th. Good luck to the cast and crew of BlacKkKlansman.
