‘Westside’ Is Netflix’s New Reality Show

Netflix/Greg Gayne

The Netflix original dives deep into the lives of nine musicians given the chance of a lifetime.

With the immense success of Queer Eye, it’s no surprise that Netflix is looking to expand its territory in the reality television world. The newest production from the streaming service is Westside, a show that focuses on a group of musicians organizing a show at a night club.

Rather than your typical singing competition show, Westside gives an inside look into the ups and downs of the music business, dealing with serious topics such as alcoholism and substance abuse. Clearly the show doesn’t focus on the glittering aspects of stardom; it’s all about the musicians.

Though the stars of the show are up-and-coming artists, you may recognize one familiar face: Pia Toscano. Toscano placed 10th on Season 10 of American Idol back in 2011, but after suffering a number of setbacks (including losing her record deal), the singer is looking to rebuild her platform through her feature on Westside.

This show is a groundbreaking way to showcase incredible artists who have previously lacked a platform to spread their music. It’s definitely a one-of-a-kind concept. Westside will premiere on Netflix on November 9th. Watch the show’s trailer and meet the cast below.
