Disney Channel star Joshua Bassett was added to the cast of the upcoming Disney television series High School Musical: The Musical.

High School Musical: The Musical is set to be an upcoming spin-off television series from the popular High School Musical movie franchise that first aired in 2006 on Disney Channel.

The series will air for ten episodes and is set-up to be a documentary-style series that films a number of students in East High attempting to create a production of High School Musical.

Bassett will be playing Ricky who is, according to the Hollywood Reporter, “a cynical but charming high school junior who launches a bold plan to win back his ex-girlfriend Nini — by auditioning to star opposite her in the school’s production of High School Musical.”

Bassett shared the news of his casting announcement on Instagram on October 17 with the caption, “GO WILDCATS!”

Bassett has had previous experience with Disney as he had starred in the Disney Channel Original Series Stuck in the Middle as Aidan.

And it’s no wonder that Disney has decided to cast Bassett for the upcoming High School Musical spinoff. Check out this Instagram video that Bassett posted of himself singing:
