Fresh off their win for Favorite Social Artist at the 2018 American Music Awards, BTS continues to make history. The Korean boy band has already achieved monumental success as the first Korean act to top U.S. charts and sell out a U.S. stadium, and now, they’ve been honored in Time Magazine’s annual list of “Next Generation Leaders.”

Boy band members Jimin, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, and Jung Kook, posed together for the issue’s cover and sat down with Time for a quick interview.

RM told Time, “As a Korean, we love our country and we’re proud of our country so much. And it’s even just an honor to be called an ambassador of Korean K-pop.” J-Hope then added, through a translator, “It’s a real honor. We’re proud that everything we do is giving off light.”

“We started to tell the stories that people wanted to hear and were ready to hear, stories that other people could not or would not tell,” explained Suga. “We said what other people were feeling—like pain, anxieties, and worries… That was our goal, to create this empathy that people can relate to.” The band is constantly promoting self-love and self-acceptance through their platforms and through their music.

RM continued, “Life has many unpredictable issues, problems, dilemmas. But I think the most important thing to live well is to be yourself. We’re still trying to be us.”
