Celebs Speak out in Support of the #WhyIDidntReport Movement

Instagram

Celebs are lending their support with the #WhyIDidntReport in light of the recent sexual assault case involving Dr. Christine Balsey Ford and Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

The hashtag started when actress Alyssa Milano took major offense to a tweet from President Donald Trump about the investigation.  Trump tweeted out “If Ford’s words were true, she would have filed a report with local law enforcement years ago.”

Milano expressed her disgust towards Trump’s blanket statement saying,  “Far too many of us know that what President Trump said is simply not true. Victims of sexual assault often don’t report what happened because they know all too well that our stories are rarely taken seriously or believed — and that when it comes to sexual misconduct, our justice system is broken.”

Milano opened up the platform for other survivors to share their stories with the #WhyIDidntReport.

Milano has been actively involved in the progression of the #MeToo movement.  From tweeting out in support to storming congress herself, Milano has utilized her platform to share the injustice of sexual assault survivors everywhere.  Now other celebrities are following in Milano’s footsteps, sharing their stories as well.

22-year-old Riverdale star Lili Reinhart tweeted,

Reinhart is not the only one who feared not being taken seriously.  Ashley Judd, who has also been extremely vocal in the #MeToo movement following accusations against producer Harry Weinstein tweeted,

Thousands of rape and sexual assault survivors are now lending their voice and sharing their stories of why they didn’t report.  In sharing their stories, these survivors are creating a safe space for victims everywhere and proving that the fight for justice is far from being over.
