NBC’s ‘The Good Place’ Returns with Its Third Season
The comedy series returns with its third season on NBC with a one-hour long premiere beginning at 8 P.M. and concluding at 9 P.M. Eastern Time.
(Warning: There will be spoilers for the second season of The Good Place.)
The cast includes Kristen Bell, Jameela Jamil, D’Arcy Carden, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, and Manny Jacinto. The show was created by Michael Schur, who was most known for his work in The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
In the season two finale, Eleanor (Bell), Chidi (Harper), Jason (Jacinto), and Tahani (Jamil) were about to be sent to The Bad Place by The Judge (Maya Rudolph) after failing a series of tests to be placed into The Good Place.
The Judge was stopped by Michael (Danson) and Janet (Carden). Michael argued to The Judge that Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, and Tahani have learned to become good people in the time they spent together in the afterlife, disproving the notion by The Judge that people can’t improve and change after they have died.
Michael then argued that Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, and Tahani would have improved, become good people, and ended up in The Good Place if they had “the right push” before their premature deaths.
After some convincing, The Judge erases Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, and Tahani’s memories of the afterlife and return them to Earth in an alternate reality to see if they become good people.
Eleanor initially decided to become a good person by quitting her job selling fake pharmaceutical medicine to the elderly, working for a non-profit organization to preserve the environment, and confessing to a friend a wrong she did her.
Meanwhile, The Judge, Michael, and Janet were in the afterlife tracking Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, and Tahani’s progress. Eleanor soon spiraled back towards her bad habits but gained encouragement through Michael who snuck to Earth and saw her while he was disguised as a bartender.
Michael’s words to Eleanor led her to watch an online lecture that Chidi had given about philosophy. Eleanor was intrigued by Chidi’s lecture and then made the decision to go meet him in his office in Australia.
We can’t wait to see what direction the third season of The Good Place will go in!
