’The Neighborhood’ To Premiere on CBS

The newest CBS comedy is coming to television this October.

The Neighborhood is a comedy that follows the experiences of the Johnson family when they move from an all-white Midwest town to a predominantly-black neighborhood in Los Angeles. They face challenges in assimilating to the neighborhood’s culture, and especially getting along with their neighbors, the Butlers.

The show stars its executive producer, Cedric the Entertainer (Calvin Butler), and Max Greenfield (Dave Johnson).

While a lighthearted comedy, The Neighborhood holds potential to start meaningful conversations about racial tensions. The show aims to tackle the issue of gentrification, and demonstrate how groups that are traditionally perceived as “different” from one another can start dialogues to bridge the gap between their differences.

The Neighborhood premieres October 1st on CBS. Watch the show’s trailer below.
