Cate Blanchett Plays Self-titled Game on Ellen

Michael Rozman/Warner Bros

The hilarious Cate Blanchett made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show promoting her new movie The House with a Clock in Its Walls.

Ellen jokes about her love for Cate Blanchett’s mind and seemingly wild association of thought and decides to play a game called “Fill in the Blanchett.”

Cate Blanchett’s responses increase in hilarity the more fill-in-the-blanks she answers, and she eventually stumbles into an equally hilarious rant about the dangers of riding roller-coasters.

During the show, Ellen also asks about Cate’s recent vacation which seems to be just as fun as it was dangerous. She recalls swimming in an Australian river with her family that she learned was infested with sharks.

She ends this story with an assurance that they weren’t eaten, saying “Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here” to which Ellen jokes, “That would be a bad end to the story.”

Confusion with Australian slang pops up when Cate Blanchett has to explain to Ellen DeGeneres what the measurement “knob” means in Australia.

The interview ends with the promotion of Cate Blanchett’s new movie also starring Jack Black.

The House with a Clock in Its Walls appears in theaters on September 21st.
