America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum came to visit Ellen Degeneres on The Ellen Degeneres Show to speak about her departure from Project Runaway, recount how she turned down a date with Drake, and discuss the current season of America’s Got Talent.

Degeneres first spoke with Klum about her decision to leave Project Runaway with her co-host Tim Gunn to develop a new reality fashion show for Amazon Prime.

“It was really hard for me too in a way because it’s been my baby,” Klum told Degeneres about leaving  Project Runaway. “I helped create the show, sell the show to the networks, and really get it off the ground, and get it going. But after sixteen years, I felt like it was time for this baby to walk by itself and for me to push out a new one.”

Klum had wanted to create the new fashion reality series that would allow viewers the opportunity to purchase the clothes designed by the competitors, an option that wasn’t available in Project Runaway.

Degeneres and Klum then returned to one of Degeneres’ games ‘Who’d You Rather?’ which Klum had played on her last visit on Ellen because she was single at the time. Klum recalled how she met her current boyfriend, Tom Kaulitz, later that night at a friend’s birthday party.

Klum had previously picked Drake throughout the whole game, before switching to Joaquin Phoenix. Drake had called Klum after seeing her on Ellen; he had texted her and got her number through a mutual friend. Klum had never responded to Drake’s text because she had already met Kaulitz.

“Drake, I’m sorry that I didn’t text you back.” Klum apologized in front of one of the studio’s cameras. “I still love your music! I’ll probably come to the concerts very soon.”

Degeneres and Klum then spoke about America’s Got Talent which is a lot of fun, according to Klum, “because you never know what happens next…it’s always crazy.”

Klum talked about how she hit the ‘Golden Buzzer’ for fifteen-year-old contestant Makayla Phillips, who had auditioned with a cover of Demi Lovato’s “Warrior” but was later eliminated in the semifinals.

“I think she’s absolutely amazing” Klum had commended about Phillips. “To me, she had the total package, but not enough people voted for her.”
