He had received numerous Grammys spanning from 2006 to 2016, including a Grammy in 2006 for “Best Male R&B Vocal Performance” for his hit song “Ordinary People.” Finally, Legend received a Tony last year for “Best Revival of a Play” for his work in the revival of Jitney.

Legend had earned his Emmy for his producer work for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert while Webber and Rice were awarded for the music and lyrics they composed and had featured in both the NBC live production and previous Broadway productions of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Legend made an Instagram post shortly after receiving the Emmy that night.

“So happy to be part of this team.” Legend wrote in his caption, appreciating his involvement in Jesus Christ Superstar. “So honored they [Webber and Rice] trusted me to play Jesus Christ. So amazed to be in such rarefied air.”

Legend then shared another photo of himself at the Emmy Awards on Instagram an hour later. He posted a still photograph of himself kissing his Emmy award with no caption included.
