Michael Strahan & Sara Haines, the co-hosts of the upcoming morning talk show GMA Day, stopped by Stage 1 of the Warner Bros. lot to speak with Ellen DeGeneres.

Degeneres and Strahan first spoke about the football player Colin Kaepernick, who was most known for upstarting the “take a knee” movement back in 2016, and his partnership with Nike. Kaepernick was recruited by Nike for the company’s thirty-anniversary Just Do It slogan campaign and was also most recently featured in a Nike commercial. The partnership had resulted in recent controversy as furious former Nike customers had decided to not only boycott the company but also burn and destroy their own articles of Nike merchandise.

Strahan expressed his support for both Kaepernick and Nike.

“When you say they [Nike] took a big hit, I think they’re smart,” Strahan told Degeneres about Nike’s decision to recruit Kaepernick. “They know what they’re doing.”

“One of the things you can do in this country is you can protest, and he’s [Kaepernick] protesting injustices that he sees happening,” Strahan continued on. “and I take my hat off to him because he really did sacrifice and put so much on the line for other people that he had no idea who they were.”

Having previously played in the NFL, Degeneres asked Strahan if he would have taken a knee if he continued to play football today.

“I would be old as dirt first of all.” Strahan joked before he answered, “You know, what? I don’t know. I think I would have. I think I would have.”

Degeneres then spoke with Strahan about his current involvement with raising money and awareness for the program MVP (Merging Vets and Players), a program that allows both military veterans and former athletes to work out together and build a support system through sharing their past experiences and their emotions.

Jay Glazer, the founder of MVP, created a “twenty-five push-ups” challenge and had Strahan’s company participate by giving away clothes in part of the challenge. Celebrities like John Krasinski and Chris Pratt had also participated in the push-ups challenge.

Degeneres then challenged Strahan to complete twenty-five pushups during the show, which you can watch below.

Haines later joined both Strahan and Degeneres during the show. Haines admitted that she got emotional backstage before coming on “because it’s so surreal to be here.” She also expressed her gratitude for Degeneres before shedding a few extra tears.

Degeneres then had Strahan and Haines interview her as if she was a guest on GMA Day with a replica of the GMA Day set.

GMA Day is scheduled to premiere on September 10th, 2018 at 1 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time.
