Here’s Five Things You Should Know Before Going to College

With back to school season underway, here are some things we think you should know if you’re heading into your freshman year of college.

Typically, when you think about college, you imagine frat bros drinking from red solo cups and girls taking basic pictures with their sorority sisters. But trust us, your college experience can be so much more rewarding.

  1. Everyone is feeling the same way you are.

It’s easy to hole up inside your dorm room and watch Netflix in your bunk bed. But you have to remember that everyone is in the same position as you. They are just as anxious as you are, so step out of your comfort zone and strike up a conversation with someone. They’ll definitely appreciate it and who knows, maybe you’ll become lifelong pals.

  1. Not all roommates are nightmares.

Yes, it’s definitely true that some people get stuck with incredible annoying roommates, but these are the people that you will first come in contact with. Make a good first impression, and try to become friends before you become roommates. You may as well try, considering you’re stuck with them for an entire year.

  1. Your professors are really cool.

If you’re a passionate student, then talk to your professors. Office hours can seem pretty daunting, but these are some incredibly smart and talented individuals who want to get to know their students. Having a good relationship with your professors is also a great way to get your foot in the door in terms of your career.

  1. It’s hard taking care of yourself.

Having someone clean up your messes, make your appointments, and make three meals a day for you is a serious blessing. Learning to manage school work, a social life, a job, and take care of your overall well-being is much more difficult than you’ll anticipate. Remember to eat healthy, study hard, and develop connections. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the madness, but take some time for yourself and don’t forget to do things that make you happy.

  1. It goes by too fast.

Reflect on all the good moments you’ve had and hold them close to your heart. It’ll fly by so much quicker than you’re ready for.
