The third season left viewers wanting more after the season three finale’s cliffhanger.

In the penultimate episode of the season, Rebecca had rejected her obsessive stalker Trent’s (Paul Welsh) advances which resulted in Trent dejectedly leaving West Covina, California — seemingly for good.

However, Trent returned to West Covina in the season three finale episode to seek revenge against Rebecca by harming her ex-boyfriend Nathaniel Plimpton III (Scott Michael Foster). Nathaniel was about to be stabbed to death by Trent when Rebecca saved Nathaniel’s life by pushing Trent off a building and leaving him severely injured. As a result, Rebecca was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder. Nathaniel encouraged Rebecca to plead insanity, which Rebecca did not want to agree to as she did not want to be labeled as “crazy” (especially since she was diagnosed earlier in the season with a borderline personality disorder).

In the end, Rebecca decided to plead guilty and go to prison because she wanted to take responsibility for her actions.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is set to return for its fourth and final season on October 12th, 2018 on The CW. The first three seasons of the show are available to view on Netflix.
