Florence Welch, also known as Florence and The Machine, is on the search for happiness through her lyrics in the new album, High as Hope

The English indie rock band has just released their fourth studio album. The 31-year-old vocalist, Florence Welch expressed her emotions thoughtfully throughout the album, opening up to her many fans and giving them an inside look into her world of feelings.

Many of the songs, specifically “Hunger” and “Sky Full of Song” give fans and listeners a look back at her youth and the emotions that she felt throughout those years in her life. She confesses to attempting to starve herself at 17 on “Hunger,” revisits her experience of growing up in “South London Forever” (“holding hands with someone that I just met”) and has a special shout out to her younger sister on “Grace” with “I’m sorry I ruined your birthday … I don’t say it enough, Grace, you are so loved.”

Florence took to Instagram to thank her fans for helping her create the album.

“I just wanted you to know I couldn’t have made this record without you,” Florence captioned the image. “In the last ten years I have had the honor of seeing you all at the shows, singing, dancing, embracing each other. So full of love.”

The album speaks of happiness in such a dark yet beautiful way; in a way that represents the hardship and negativity that one might experience on the journey to happiness but the lyrics work as a sort of reassurance that the feeling is attainable.
