Millie Bobby Brown Speaks Out Against Bullying at the MTV Awards
While the young actress couldn’t attend the event due to a knee injury, she sent along a video to the MTV Movie & TV Awards to follow-up her Best Performance in a Show win.
Brown recently left Twitter due to online harassment in the form of a homophobic meme of which she was the subject. While, of course, she had no hand in the cruel joke, she made the decision to deactivate her account nonetheless.
In her acceptance speech, the Stranger Things star spoke about her gratitude to her fans and the life-changing opportunity to play Eleven, but she also addressed bullies everywhere. “Finally, since I know there are many young people watching this—and even to the adults, too —they could probably use the reminder that I was taught: If you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say it,” Brown encouraged, “There should be no space in this world for bullying, and I’m not going to tolerate it, and neither should any of you.”

While she is only 14-years-old, the English sci-fi sensation has proven herself to be a strong anti-bullying advocate, often speaking out about the issue in the past, and even starting a Twitter account called @Milliestopshate in July 2017 (which is still active, though she hasn’t tweeted in about six months). “If you need a reminder of how worthy you are and to rise above the hate, message me on Instagram,” she concluded with a wink.
