(Instagram)

25-year-old Chicago rapper, Noname, is taking on the rap game with her poetic raps and smooth jazz-influenced sound.

Fatimah Nyeema Warner began rapping and performing at poetry slams in her hometown in 2010. Noname started getting attention for her feature on the song “Lost” by Chance the Rapper on his mixtape Acid Rap.

Noname released her debut mixtape called Telefone in July of 2016. The 10 track mixtape showcases her melodic sound while showing her capabilities as a thought-provoking lyricist.

The mixtape is heavily influenced by police brutality and her experience of living in fear for her life and others who look like her as a black woman in America.

In an interview with Fader, she names some of her influences such as Nina Simone, Toni Morrison, and a poet named Patricia Smith; that helped mold and influence her unique sound and style.
