Issa Rae drops Spoiler for ‘Insecure’ Season 3

Issa Rae, co-creator, and star of Insecure revealed that the HBO series will address black masculinity.

She explains that she didn’t want to give too much away, but Issa expresses how she loves black masculinity as it relates to black women. She describes how it’s something interesting that the show hasn’t yet explored-and undoubtedly toxic male black masculinity as it refers to black women. Issa is trying to find a way to explore that and get a rounded storyline that isn’t preachy.
Issa Rae said the upcoming season would also tackle the process of becoming an adult.

The characters on the show fumble and mess up while going through their lives which shows exactly how most people in their 20’s are. She says that the season is about not being naive anymore or not knowing better. It is more about knowing better and doing better.

Insecure is know for addressing black issues since it hit the screen, specifically the experience of the millennial black female. The HBO hit series avoids the stereotypical black characters that others have noticed from other tv shows, for instance, a healthy determined, self-motivated black woman like Viola Davis character, Annalise Keating, in How to Get Away With Murder or Kerry Washington’s role, Oliva Pope, in Scandal.

Season 3 of Insecure is set to return on August 12 on HBO.
