Disney’s Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Now Has a Love Interest

(Disney)

Disney’s live-action Mulan has secured Yoson An as Mulan’s love interest, but An won’t be playing Li Shang from the animated version.

Instead, Yoson An will be playing the character Chen Honghui. He will film with Liu Yifei (also known as Crystal Liu) who will be playing Mulan. An is from New Zealand and is of Chinese descent.

The story seems mostly the same as the animated movie with Mulan disguising herself as a man to take her father’s place in the military. Where it seems different is Mulan’s love interest. This time, Li Shang will not be falling in love with the very independent Mulan. Instead, Chen Honghui will take Li Shang’s place. Honghui is recruited into the military and will later be a friend and love interest to Mulan.

Along with Yoson An and Liu Yifei, actors Jet Li, Gong Li, and Donnie Yen will be apart of the Disney adventure. While it is sad we can’t fall for a live-action Li Shang, Yoson An is pretty cute and Chen Honghui seems like he will be a sweet character for Mulan. Disney’s live-action Mulan is set to premiere March 27, 2020.
