It’s between Donald Glover, Ryan Gosling, and Ezra Miller as to who will take on the iconic role in the upcoming prequel.

Warner Brothers have begun their search for Willy Wonka as they prepare for the next movie, which will explore the legendary Roald Dahl character’s origins, and these three A-list actors are rumored to be at the top of their shortlist.

This cinematic journey into Wonka’s past will allegedly aim to answer questions regarding how the mysterious chocolatier gained his fortune and how he met the Oompa Loompas. The project was devised by Harry Potter producer David Heyman, American Novelist Simon Rich will write the screenplay, and Paddington helmer Paul King will direct the film.

As for the prospects of the lead, there has been speculation that Donald Glover is in hot pursuit of the role. The studio is already invested in Miller, given his involvement in the Fantastic Beasts franchise and the fact that he plays DC’s hero the Flash, and they’ve also done plenty of work with Gosling on Blade Runner 2049Crazy, Stupid LoveThe Nice GuysGangster Squad, and his directorial debut Lost River. However, the Solo sensation would certainly be a fresh departure from Johnny Depp, who starred in Tim Burton’s 2005 remake of the children’s classic.

While Gene Wilder will always and forever be the one true Willy Wonka, any of these supremely talented actors would be a great choice by Warner Bros moving forward.
