Five of the Best Couples on TV

(Instagram)

From the 1960s to the 2010s, television has been full of couples who have made us scream “couple goals” at our sets for years now, and today, we honor them by looking at just five of the best couples to ever grace our screens.

1) Gomez and Morticia Addams- The Addams Family (1964-1966)

The oldest couple on our list, Morticia and Gomez Addams were revolutionary in their portrayal of a happy and faithful marriage between husband and wife. Unlike some shows which usually revolve around the husband’s constant desire for others and the wife is characterized as the moody nag, Morticia and Gomez shared a deeply passionate and committed relationship: both doting on one another and their children, encouraging one another to pursue their true passions and interests, and always fiercely protective of one another and their fellow ooky-spooky family members, they were truly an iconic couple. While they have gone on to inspire movies, reboots, and even a Broadway musical, nothing compares to the original.

2) Nomi Marks and Amanita Caplan- Sense8 (2015-2018)

Nomi Marks shares a telepathic connection with seven other main cast members in this Netflix Original, but that is not the only thing truly astounding about her. Nomi’s dedicated and caring relationship with her partner, Amanita Caplan, is one of the bright spots on a show that, at times, can seem extremely bleak. Never hesitating to offer comfort or guidance to one another, nor ever getting caught up in the wildness and craziness that surrounds them in their world, Nomi and Amanita’s love is one of the many reasons why this show was revived for a spin-off movie, with the audiences’ unwillingness to let them go without a proper goodbye.

3) Raymond Holt and Kevin Cozner- Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013-)

The stone-faced, head of the nine-nine, Raymond Holt, has never attempted to hide his sexuality from the precinct, even at the risk of discrimination from colleagues like at his former precinct, and who would blame him when he has a partner so perfectly tailored to him as Kevin Cozner? The seemingly stoic yet extremely devoted couple proves that there love is much more than surface level.

4) Joel and Sheila Hammond- The Santa Clarita Diet (2017-)

At first glance, Joel and Sheila seem like a perfectly normal couple, and they were until Sheila became a zombie. Now, what’s a husband to do when the one he loves becomes the undead? Well, obviously you stick by her side and attempt to find a cure while helping her control her cravings for human flesh, duh. While their situation may seem dire, Joel and Sheila prove that when the going get’s tough, it pays to have a loved one by your side. With their fierce loyalty and love for one another, who needs brains with all this heart?

5) Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope- Parks and Recreation (2009-2015)

Ben Wyatt is the adorkable finance officer, Leslie Knope is the headstrong, ambitious leader of the Parks Department of Pawnee, Indiana. One of the most devoted and pure couples on television, Leslie and Ben are both supportive and loyal towards one another, almost seeming in sync at times. While they are often overshadowed by couples like Anne and Chris or April and Andy, Ben and Leslie remain the staple of the show with their big personalities and passionate romance.

And there we have it, five of the best couples on television. Tell us, who’s your favorite couple?
