Zendaya’s new role is a far cry from her Disney days.

K.C. Undercover alum, Zendaya, has been cast as the leading actress in the HBO’s pilot Euphoria.

Based on the Israeli series of the same name, Zendaya will play 17-year-old Rue, a girl with substance abuse issues and a habit of lying.

Billed as a show about “drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship,” the teen drama may take place in present day, although the Israeli series was set in the nineties.

Starring alongside The Greatest Showman actress is The Kissing Booth‘s Jacob Elordi as Nate, and A Wrinkle In Time‘s Storm Reid, who will play Gia.
