The star of TLC’s I Am Jazz has officially shared the date and details of her gender confirmation surgery.

The seventeen-year-old has made waves in the media from the time she appeared on 20/20 at age seven for an interview with Barbara Walters; to the premiere of her own television show in 2015; right up to now. She has also been credited as the youngest person to become a national transgender figure.

Jazz was born male and claims that since she was just two years old she has known she was meant to be a girl. Fortunately, her parents have always been accepting of her identity and have supported her throughout the course of her journey, allowing her to go on hormone blockers at an early age to prevent the onset of male puberty. Now, on June 26th, she will finally take what is perhaps the most pivotal step of her transition and undergo gender confirmation surgery.

In a video she released on her YouTube channel, she explains the immense excitement she has about the surgery that will finally give her the genitalia that corresponds to her gender. She also emphasizes how important is it to her that she shares her experience, stating, “The reason why I’m being so open and documenting my journey with this procedure is because I feel education is super important. If I put out this information for people to see, they won’t need to ask any more questions.”
