Busy Philipps Shares a Message for Kids Struggling with Anxiety

As someone who has fought a lifelong battle with anxiety, Philipps is on a mission to raise awareness about mental health issues.

The actress has teamed up with The Child Mind Institute on behalf of their #MyYoungerSelf campaign, for which she has released a video detailing a very personal account of her experience with anxiety since childhood.

In the video, she explains that she would lie awake at night as a kid with “spinning thoughts,” too afraid to tell her parents what was happening because she believed that there was something wrong with her. However, she also shares that finally talking about her struggle was the first step to relief.

“I was able to get help—therapy, sometimes medication. There’s nothing wrong with that either. I would’ve liked to tell my younger self not to be embarrassed or ashamed, and to open up and to talk about what’s happening,” the new late-night host revealed, “It feels kind of incredible to know that you’re not alone. So… you’re not alone.”

Philipps has now joined Kristen Bell, Sarah Silverman, Gabrielle Union and James Van Der Beek, all who have participated in the #MyYoungerSelf campaign effort to send a message of encouragement to young people enduring these troubles.
